Marietta College
Over 250 Cisco Lightweight Access Points were installed throughout all of the college’s residence halls, creating one of the largest TSI-designed Wireless LANs using the Location Tracking Appliance.  The system is centrally managed using a controller in the core, Wireless Control System (WCS) management software, and the Location Tracking Appliance.

Challenge: Expand Wireless Coverage to Residence Halls
Solution: Centrally-Managed Wireless LAN (Local Area Network).  Over 250 Lightweight Access Points were installed throughout all of the college’s residence halls.  The system is centrally managed using a controller in the core, Wireless Control System (WCS) management software and a Location Tracking Appliance. Location Tracking utilizes triangulation to determine the locations of wireless clients such as laptops or RFID tags.  The Location Tracking Appliance stores the information.  This application is useful for locating and tracking valuable assets, such as people and expensive equipment by attaching an active RFID tag.  An active RFID tag acts as a beacon, sending a regular signal to the wireless network.  Location Tracking can also increase safety by being able to locate users with wireless devices.
Results: Students can access the network anywhere in the dorms, fraternity houses, and sorority houses.  Campus administration has the ability to track users and assets.
