Copley-Fairlawn City School District
Located near Akron, Ohio, the Copley-Fairlawn City School District serves approximately 3,400 students in its five schools. Recently, the school district began an ambitious plan to upgrade its network foundation and bring wireless networking to its schools. TSI, Inc. is helping the district develop its wireless network.
Challenge:
Deploy wireless networking throughout the district; To replace a single, wireless computer lab housing several mobile carts with Access Points (APs), which limited the number of wireless users; Offer high-speed network access throughout the district
Solution: Centralized Wireless LAN for monitoring and supporting users in five buildings
Results: The wireless network presents new opportunities for many of the students. Teachers and students are seeing the powerful results of being able to connect to shared resources and information. The wireless network is scalable and can accommodate the rapid growth of students and staff anywhere in the district.
Next: Copley-Fairlawn’s network is poised to grow, both in size and function. Future technological advances could include:
- More security cameras and wireless PDAs to increase student safety.
- Voice communications over IP (VoIP), enabling voice and data communications to share the same network and eliminating the need to maintain two separate communications networks.
- Wireless IP phones, which have been proven to increase safety and security within the school environment
